Trinity United Methodist Church
Goldsboro, MD
History Of TUMC..
In 1901 two and one-quarter acres of land was purchased for $125.00 from the heirs of Sara Jones, the wife of Benjamin Jones. A parsonage was erected on this site, completed in 1970. The Rev. and Mrs. Frank Jenkins were the first to occupy the home. When the denominations of Southern Methodist, Methodist Episcopal, and Methodist Protestant United, the Goldsboro Church became known as Trinity Methodist. The name continued until 1968 when the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist churches joined. The name again was changed and is now the Trinity United Methodist Church.
The first remodeling of the church was in 1920. At that time a vestibule, with one entrance was added to the front. the Sunday School rooms were built on the north side. The interior was changed by the first recessed pulpit which was given by Mrs. James Shively, the work done by her son, Noble Shively. The balcony was also removed.
Another addition consisting of more church school rooms and a lounge was built in 1959. To cover this improvement a mortgage was put on the building. By a special fundraising drive, this indebtedness was paid and the mortgage was burned at the Homecoming Service on October 11,1970
Our Hymnals and NIV Bibles were dedicated to the honor of many family members and friends.
